Why I'm not bitter about the power outage

If Brian were bitter, he'd post something like this:

Oh, the joys of living on campus. You thought having freakishly frequent fire alarms was bad enough? How about a five-hour power outage?

But, truth be told, I'm really not bitter or upset about last night's power outage at all... for a couple reasons:

First, because I was about as ready for it as one could be. See, I definitely didn't get to bed around midnight like I was supposed to on Tuesday night after setting it as one of my goals for the week. But last night I quit schoolwork at 11, cleaned up and organized my stuff a little bit, and printed out yesterday's Upper Room devotional from my email to read before bed. I had just finished up on the computer and was preparing to turn out all but one of the lights and get ready for devotional and bed when, essentially, the lights turned themselves out.

So I wander out into the hall, as did almost everyone else, notice that the stairwell lights are on, and wonder aloud with Annette, "Who broke the floor?" As it turns out, the stairwells were lit by a backup power source, and the outage extended over to Palm Walk and up to University Drive.

Oh, and also at about this time, I mentally decide to give Diane, a new C5er this semester, the official Courtesy Award of the night for her oh-so-polite delivery of the line, "Guys! I know the power's out, but can you please shut the f--- up?" and her very similar encore performance.

Anyway, I popped some batteries in my ASU toolbox/flashlight that we all got at TEAMS last spring and brush the teeth, pop out the contacts, read my devotional, pray, and then go to bed. However, this attempt at sleep was short-lived as I later went on to call DPS and TPD, get some photos, and walk around campus surveying the extent of the outage... with no shoes on.

Originally I thought was just headed down to Center Courtyard to see if there was any large amassment of people that should be noted, so I put my clothes that I wore yesterday back on and took my pen, notebook, and camera but didn't think to find the flip-flops. By the time I had walked up to University and back down to about Orange, I kinda wished that I had thought about footwear, but oh well.

Anyway, the other main reason I'm not at all bitter about the outage is that it gave me a story to work on today that people would actually give me information for (as opposed to some stories)! So if you want all the info about last night's outage, be sure to check out tomorrow's edition of The State Press. :)
