On days like these, it’s good to be unemployed.
Today was an amazing day, partly because of all the random and wonderful things that it entailed but also because the day included all seven of my ingredients for a fulfilling day (the 7i), which I'll talk about in more detail soon.
Anyway, today I had a really sustainable morning... not because I care about the earth but rather because it's cheaper that way. I showered by candlelight (using no electricity... Suck it, SRP.) and then had a dance break while shaving when "Love Machine" (Da) came on the battery-powered radio I have in the bathroom. Soon, I was waiting for a series of buses (that I don't have to fill up... Deal with that, oil companies.) that took me to the Tempe Public Library.
After picking up a book, I walked down to the nearby Denny's, where I partook in the free Grand Slam that millions of other Americans also chowed down on. I also left a decent tip (one calculated on the premise that the Grand Slam actually cost something) for my server, who I had earlier heard lamenting the fact that some customer had given her a 58-cent tip. I imagine it must've been a rough day for Denny's employees nationwide, and unfortunately, the Republic's Wednesday story on the promotion offers little more than an "Oh, wasn't that nice?"-style recap. I'll look around tomorrow when I read the morning papers to see if any other news organizations looked into the stresses on the employees, exactly who's footing the bill for all the free meals, etc.
Anyway, after a walk-bus-walk journey home, I found out that Chris was hanging out at his new house in between errands, inspections and projects there. So I drove out (Si) to visit him (You win again, oil companies.), make a run to the post office and scope out bathtubs at Home Depot. Then, I got to pull up old tack strips in Chris' new living room, which had been carpeted but will soon be tiled (Se).
You have no idea how much I enjoyed getting to use a pry bar for the first time since last summer. I mean, just doing anything where I can immediately see the results of my labor (as opposed to the apply-and-maybe-get-a-response-if-you-hound-the-recipient world of job applications) is a welcome activity these days, and having it be hands-on work made me even happier.
Warren also joined the work party, and we finished up by catching up (Sm La) over dinner at Julio's, which has been sadly absent from Tempe for a few years now but has a Mesa location near Chris' new place.
After dinner, though, I headed over to my mom's house and tried to calm Toby down a bit (Pl) in preparation for the main attraction — watching the increasingly popular cult classic The Room. This 2003 film is not only the talk of Hollywood these days but also stars State Presser Philip Haldiman, so Claudia and I watched our former reporter play poor, poor Denny (La).
I would tell you more about the movie, but a) you really need to see it for yourself and b) I need to get ready for bed (Pr). Plus, I can't because it's confidential. Anyway, how's your sex life?
